THE LOKTA ILLUSTRATED BIBLE

Creation

In the beginning,
a world of colour.

The opening story of the Bible, told through bold shapes, rich colours and the distinctive textures of Nepali lokta paper.

A simple paraphrase of Genesis accompanies the illustrations, following the story from darkness and light to a world filled with life. A book to read aloud, explore together and return to for its pictures.

BEHIND THE ILLUSTRATIONS

The texture of Nepal.
A story of beginnings.

I developed this illustration style while studying for my master’s in graphic design. Simple shapes are drawn digitally, then layered with scanned textures from Nepali lokta paper.

The fibres, colours and variations in the handmade paper bring character to each image. In Creation, those textures become water, mountains, leaves and the creatures that fill the pages.

I began work on the book during lockdown in the UK in 2020. It became the first title in The Lokta Illustrated Bible.

The next chapter.

Adam & Eve is written and around halfway through its illustrations. Cain & Abel is also written, with most of its illustrations still to come.
