The Twelve Days
of Christmas

A familiar Christmas song,
in the colours and textures of Nepal.

From a partridge in a pear tree to twelve drummers drumming, the traditional carol comes to life in twelve illustrations. Bold shapes and the textured character of Nepali lokta paper give each spread a playful, distinctive charm.

A festive book to sing along with, share with children or simply enjoy for its artwork, year after year.

BEHIND THE ILLUSTRATIONS

A little bit of Nepal
on every page.

I first developed this style while studying for my master’s in graphic design. For a project about social issues in Nepal, I wanted illustrations that were clear and direct, while also reflecting something of the country’s creativity.

The artwork begins with simple shapes drawn digitally. Scanned lokta-paper textures are then layered into the images, bringing the character of the handmade paper to each colour and form. The result has the feel of cut-paper collage, reproduced on the printed page.

The Twelve Days of Christmas takes that approach into a different setting: a traditional carol, seen through a palette of blues, golds, greens and festive colour.

A BOOK TO BRING OUT EVERY CHRISTMAS
